Some residents in the town of Independence don’t want a Confederate flag flying at a city owned cemetery. The local Veterans of Foreign Wars post has occasionally flown a Confederate battle flag for the last 16 years to honor Confederate veterans buried in Veterans Park cemetery. Some residents have complained, saying it’s a symbol of racism. The city says no one has complained in the past and despite the objections, the flag will still fly on federal holidays.
