The Northwoods baseball league is designed to give college players a chance to improve their games during the summer and Waterloo Bucks shortstp Kyle Haines is taking advantage of the opportunity. The senior-to-be at Eastern Illinois has been a bright spot in an otherwise dissapointing start to the season. Haines ranks first or second in the league in four offensive categories: hits, on-base percentage, stolen bases and average whic is over the four-hundred mark. He was a key factor in Waterloo’s championship season in 2002 and likes being considered one of the team leaders. Haines says he has been very impressed with quality of baseball the league has offered. He says people probably get tired of him pushing the league’s quality. Haines was named to the league’s post-season All Star team last year.
