Three charged after chase and crash in Fairfield

June 26, 2003 By admin

Three southeast Iowans are facing charges, including child endangerment, after a police chase and crash. About 3 A.M. Wednesday, a Fairfield police officer spotted a car doing 70 miles an hour in a 55 zone and gave chase. The car sped on, crashed a fence at Maharishi University and nearly hit a building. All three adult occupants of the car fled on foot and were eventually caught. Police found a six-month-old child in the car. The child was taken into state protective custody. Police say the car was driven by John Monoco of Burlington. The passengers were: Shane Cheely and Nichole Pace, also of Burlington. Monoco faces a variety of traffic violations while he and the others could face child endangerment and other charges, but as yet, charges are still pending.
