This weekend will feature aerial sights besides the usual fireworks. “Fly Iowa” this year is at the Cedar Rapids airport, and organizer Chuck McDonald says you don’t have to be a pilot to bring the family and enjoy the show. If you come by car you’ll probably approach Cedar Rapids on Interstate 380, so get off at Wright Brothers Boulevard and shuttles will take people to the airport. Drivers and pilots alike can come to a fly-in breakfast each day, served seven to eleven at the airport. But for most, the booths and displays and even food take second place to the aerial displays. There will be “fly-bys,” and the main airshow Saturday and Sunday afternoons will be a program called the U.S. Air Force Heritage Flight featuring an F-16 and a P-47 from WW2. Admission and parking are all free. The Iowa Aviation Promotion Group hopes 40-thousand people attend the 12th annual “Fly Iowa” event. For more information surf to “www.flyiowa2003.org”
