Martensdale-St. Mary’s finds itself at the top looking down in class 1A

July 1, 2003 By admin

Martensdale-St.Mary’s coach Jim Donohue hopes his team can handle its newest ranking. Starting the week 21-0, the Blue Devils take over as the top-ranked team in class 1A in the latest Radio Iowa/Baseball coaches Association High School Poll. Veteran Coach Jim Donahue’s team is getting production up and down the lineup. Donahue says other teams have a hard time defending all nine batters. Donahue says while young, the Blue Devils are loaded with experience and that along with the program’s history of success help them handle the top ranking. Donahue says quality depth on the pitching staff gives them a chance to win each time they take the field. He says the future looks bright as well since Martensdale-St. Mary’s has just two seniors on the roster. The school has had just one losing season in the past 30 years.
