Toothbrushes being airlifted to troops

July 8, 2003 By admin

The largest provider of dental insurance benefits in Iowa is taking part in an airlift of toothbrushes for American soldiers serving in the Persian Gulf region. Mickey McDaniel, spokeswoman for Delta Dental Plan of Iowa, says they joined with a half-dozen other non-profit plans nationwide to buy the 50-thousand toothbrushes for the troops. In addition to it being good hygiene to brush your teeth, McDaniel says it’s also an effort to maintain positive morale in making sure the troops have little touches from home like new toothbrushes. McDaniel says Delta’s happy to participate in the effort to make certain U.S. soldiers maintain good oral health while serving the country. She says “The service does provide some toothbrushes but to get those distributed we understood was a problem. By getting this many at one time, it facilitated the distribution.” McDaniel says the shipment should already be in the Persian Gulf region and troops ought to be getting their new brushes very soon.
