Oskaloosa Post Office sells on e-bay

A southeastern Iowa community has learned the power of e-Bay. The battle over the fate of the Oskaloosa post office came to an end this week when all city council members except two voted to sell it. Two bid offers surfaced after city manager Don Sandor placed the post office building on e-Bay hoping to catch a bite. Brad O’Halloran of Alsip, Illinois, won the bidding war over Joseph Nathanson of New York, with the winning bid of $241,000. The final decision to sell caused mixed emotions among members. Kelly Minter, chairman of the finance committee, voted “no” and was upset to see the building go for under $300,000 — something she had been fighting for. Council member Jimmy Carter was overwhelmed and pleased about the council’s decision to accept O’Halloran’s bid, finally ending the struggle. O’Halloran, the highest bidder, raised his bid by about $31,000 before the sale closed.
