Over 300,000 sign up for "Do Not Call" list

July 11, 2003 By admin

Federal officials say more than 330,000 Iowa phone numbers have been placed on the national “Do Not Call” list as of yesterday. Attorney General Tom Miller says the FTC told him 333,000 Iowa numbers are on the list, and he says it shows the “frustration we’ve all felt with some telemarketing calls.” Miller says by now, between a fourth and a third of all the phone numbers in Iowa have been placed on the “do not call” list. Miller says those who’re registering on-line need to make sure they respond to the e-mail confirmation. Miller says about two-thirds of the Iowans who’ve registered phone lines have done so on-line. He registered by phone. To ensure your phone line is a no-go for most telemarketers, call 1-888-382-1222 or visit the website — www.donotcall.gov — to sign up.
