Investigation continues in buggy accident near Knawah

July 14, 2003 By admin

An investigation is underway after a horse-drawn buggy accident in Wright County sent a dozen people to the hospital over the weekend. The accident happened on Saturday night on a county road near Kanawah. The Iowa State Patrol says for some reason, the horse was spooked and spun the buggy around, tossing a passenger off. Two people were seriously injured, while the others suffered minor injuries. Ten-year-old Tracy Ruter of Kanawah was taken to Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City, then transferred to St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester Minnesota, where her condition is not being released. Twenty-nine-year-old Berry Terhark of Belmond, who was driving the buggy, was listed in fair condition at Mercy-North Iowa.
