The state trooper severely injured in a wreck late last year is in rehab, and hoping to return to duty one day. Trooper John Sebetka worked out of the Atlantic post, and was involved in a deer versus car accident on November 17. The wreck happened two miles east of Vail, on Highway 30. Jim Saunders, a spokesman for the Patrol, says a passing motorist struck a deer, and Sebetka’s vehicle hit it, too, and the deer wound up going through the windshield of the squad car. Sebetka suffered a head injury. Saunders says the trooper’s still making improvement and has a positive outlook. Sebetka goes to an Omaha hospital twice a week for physical therapy sessions. When or even if he returns to work is still up in the air, according to Saunders. Saunders says Sebetka is in constant contact with his fellow troopers, and his superiors want him to be completely healthy before he returns to work. Sebetka, who is 29 years old, is a Grinnell native.
