American Airlines plans to cut two-thousand jobs and 200 flights out of its Saint Louis hub, and the impact will be felt at several Iowa airports. American now has seven flights a day to Des Moines, but that’ll be cut to three dailies starting in November. The Davenport area will take a bigger hit as the “silver bird” is terminating all eight flights a day between St. Louis and the Quad City Airport, representing about a third of all air traffic out of the Quad Cities. American is also eliminating all four of its daily flights between St. Louis and Omaha/Council Bluffs and is cutting back service between St. Louis and Cedar Rapids from eight down to three flights. It’s unclear how many, if any, American jobs in Iowa will be lost.
