Iowa has its first confirmed West Nile case of the summer. A northeast Iowa man in his 70s became ill, and State Epidemiologist Patricia Quinlisk says he’s in a “large hospital” being treated.Quinlisk says the man became ill in early July, and it was confirmed today that he’s suffering from the West Nile virus. He’s in “serious but stable condition” according to Quinlisk, who declined to release the man’s name or tell reporters where the man lives. She did say he is a “part-time farmer.” Iowa had 52 confirmed cases of West Nile virus last year, and two Iowans died of the disease. The first case of West Nile in Iowa was reported on August 28th of last year.
