Recreational vehicle owners rally in Forest City

July 22, 2003 By admin

Some 16-hundred recreational vehicles carrying 35-hundred people have spread out across a huge campground in Forest City for this week’s Winnebago-Itasca Travelers Club Grand National Rally. WIT Club General Manager Denny Burkholder says they certainly have a nationwide draw for the event.People from 49 states drove a total of 2-million-200-thousand miles to get to the rally last year. He says if there was a highway to Hawaii, they’d have all 50 states represented. Burkholder says they have a full schedule of events slated for the next four days, most of which zero in on R-V owners.Burkholder says motor home drivers can test their skills in two different competitions. They also have a back seat driver contest where the driver is blindfolded and given directions for backing up via a radio.Burkholder says a nationally-known game show will be holding a contestant search today (Tuesday) at the north Iowa rally.Burkholder says the rally grounds and events are only for WIT members, but you can still drive past the grounds located east of Winnebago’s main plant and offices to see the huge collection of R-Vs.
