Williamsburg looks to complete successful sports season at baseball tourney

The Williamsburg baseball team will complete a remarkable sports season this week at the state baseball tournament. During the past school year the football team finished as the state runner-up, the basketball team made it to the state tournament and the school finished second at the state track meet. Baseball coach Tim Goodwin says the pressure was on him to finish well. Goodwin says the team struggled a little bit early on because each of the previous seasons had gone on longer than normal, and the kids were a bit burned out. Goodwin says his team kept telling him ‘wait ’til tournament time coach,’ and he says they’ve really “turned it on.” Goodwin says his team has won with balance. He preaches great pitching, great defense, and timely hitting. The team is hitting .370 right now. The Raider will play sixth-ranked North Polk in Wednesday night’s class 2A opening round in Marshalltown. Goodwin says he feels pretty comfortable with his best on the hill. Casey O’Rourke will go to the mound for Williamsburg. He is 10-1 on the season.
