The timer is running out on the entry deadline for the IowaWhite House Easter Egg Contest. Holly Sorge who oversees the contest for the Iowa Egg Council says they’re looking for an egg to represent Iowa at the White House for Easter of 2004. Sorge says the entry papers need to be in by Friday (August 1st). Sorge says the contest requires you to decorate a large chicken egg in an Iowa theme. Sorge says you don’t have to be a professional artist to enter. The contest is open to anybody, and she says you’re encouraged to enter because it’s not necessarily the most artistic egg that will win. She says the winning egg design will “scream Iowa.” Plus, there are some nice prizes. This year’s awards will include a first place prize of $500 plus traveling expenses to see your egg displayed at the White House, a second place prize of $400 and a third place prize of $300. You can request an entry form and a complete list of rules by calling toll-free 1-877-469-2344 by surfing on-line to: www.iowaegg.org. The winner will be announced during the Iowa State Fair.
