Governor Tom Vilsack is urging Iowans to take steps to prepare for higher energy bills this coming winter. Energy conservation experts will be stationed in the Governor’s State Fair booth in the Varied Industries Building, and will offer advice on weatherization projects, like insulating duct-work. Vilsack says utility companies in Iowa have doubled the money available in their special weatherization programs which help provide energy-using appliances and other items at lower-than-retail prices. He says Iowa has engaged energy companies and utitlity companies to provide a number of items to help people make their homes more energy efficient. Vilsack is also asking Iowa’s Congressional delegation to lobby for extra federal money in the Low Income Heat and Energy Assistance Program which helps the poor pay their utility bills.
