The Iowa Utilities Board is conducting a survey of local phone coverage in the state. Board spokesman Rob Hillesland says the survey is similar to a survey done in the past on other utilities. He says there’s not a lot of information available on local phone service. Hillesland says the survey will give the board an idea of the options available for local service. He says they’re looking at how much competition there is in each community. Hillesland says the information can be very useful. He says it will help to develop a resource for customers all over Iowa to see the telephone options available and also gives the board some information to evaluate some of their regulatory policies. He says the survey could be done in two or three months. He says the survey forms went out just yesterday, and the board is asking to get the surveys back by November. Hillesland says the survey will only cover hard wire service, and will not include wireless service.
