Three Iowa National Guard Military Policemen were wounded in Iraq yesterday — one quite severely. The three soldiers are part of the Guard’s Military Police Company that’s based in Johnston and they were wounded after an explosion near the Humvee they were in. According to witnesses, the vehicle was hit with a rocket-propelled grenade as the Humvee was making its way through a commercial area of Baghdad. Twenty-one-year-old Robert Jackson of Des Moines has had both legs amputated below the knee. A spokesman for the Guard says he’s in stable condition and has spoken by phone with his wife. The other two soldiers — 21-year-old Nathan Lienemann of Adel and Ashly Mentzer of Boonee — were treated for their injuries but have returned to their unit.
