Iowa State coach Dan McCarney says Austin Flynn leads in the race to become the Cyclones’ starting quarterback in their August 30th opener against Iowa State. The redshirt freshman from Texas has been competing for the starting job along with junior college transfer Waye Terry. The Cyclones have one major scrimmage remaining on Wednesday before the opener. He says Flynn has been better in the two scrimmages, although he says Terry has not been bad. McCarney says while Flynn has the edge, they will evaluate this week of practice before making a decision. He says they still have evaluations and another important scrimmage Wednesday to look at before naming a starter. McCarney says a final decision on the starter may not be made until the beginning of next week. McCarney says they like Flynn’s potential since he set foot on campus. McCarney says he has a lot of talent, but zero experience.
