Upper Iowa football coach Courtney Messingham says while excited about the future his focus right now is on the present. The first-year coach is preparing his team for its final season in the Iowa Conference after the school announced this month it was moving to the N-C-A-A Division-two ranks. Messingham says while everyone associated with the program is keeping an eye on the future they want this season to be a positive experience for the current players. He says they have to build a process so the future is as bright at they think it’s going to be. Among the stops he has made as a coach was a four-year stint on the staff at Truman State. Messingham says that experience will be a plus as the school makes the transition to division-two. He says in division two you can break scholarships up among the team of 90 to 100 guys. Messingham says with a first-year coaching staff preseason workouts carry added importance with evaluation and implementing the new system. The Peacocks were 2-8 last year. They open this season with a non-conference game at Wisconsin-Osh Kosh on September sixth.
