Wounded Iowa soldier returns to U.S. for recovery

August 21, 2003 By admin

An Iowan wounded in Iraq is back in the U.S. Specialist Robert Jackson of Des Moines had both legs amputated below the knee after a rocket-propelled grenade hit the humvee he was riding in earlier this month. Two other Iowa guards riding with him were treated and returned to active duty in Bagdad. Jackson’s back in the US at the Brooks Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. Army doctors there say he’s in stable condition and is starting rehabilitation. Jackson’s wife is with him at Fort Sam Houston, and a fund’s been started for the family. Any Wells Fargo bank can take contributions to the Specialist Robert E. Jackson fund.
