Decorah Wal-Mart dispute settled

August 25, 2003 By admin

A long-running legal dispute over the new Decorah Wal-Mart has been settled. The new store — which was built just about one year ago — has been in the middle of a four-year legal battle over its location. Residents in the area had tried to block the store as its construction required the use of fill dirt in the flood plain. An agreement has been reached that will see Wal-Mart donate 75-thousand dollars to the Decorah Public Library and 75-thousand to the city for a flood plain study. Wal-Mart will also lease its Centrum Plaza to the city for one dollar a year.
