The recent hot weather’s led to an early end to many Iowa schooldays. But in Fairfield, they’re tackling the problem a different way, as classes are getting underway earlier in the day so kids can work in the mostly unairconditioned buildings. Superintendent Steve Triplett says the schedule’s unique, but it works when the heat is on. He says it lets kids get work done in classrooms that may reach nearly 100 degree by noon. Classes start at 8 a.m. Several other southeast Iowa school districts are dismissing early through the end of this week.
