A festival billed as a celebration of Iowa’s rural heritage is underway through Monday. The 54th annual Old Threshers Reunion is being held in Mount Pleasant and Lennis Moore is running it.The event is gathering hundreds of antique steam engines, tractors, cars and trucks, a steam train and even a steam-powered carousel. Besides all of the fascinating old machines, Moore says there are also fascinating old people there too who know those threshers, tractors and other devices inside and out. He says that age of people is quickly starting to disappear, but he says it’s great to talk to them as it’s great to hear the stories about when the machines were used in the fields.Moore says there are a number of very rare machines that are all being put through their paces, including a huge, lumbering, chugging device with a long blade that strips a log to make wood veneer. For more information, surf to “oldthreshers.org” or call (319) 385-8937.
