September 2, 2003 By admin

A Sheldon Man’s been sentenced in the death of a northwest Iowa teen. O’Brien County attorney Bruce Green says 25-year-old Lathan Barnett will spend not more than five years in prison after pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter. He was charged in the death of 17-year-old Shelly Gonnerman in October 2002. The judge also assessed a 750-dollar fine, 225 dollar surcharge, and ordered Barnett to pay the fees of his court-appointed attorney. He’s being held in the O’Brien County jail while a five-count federal weapons indictment is still pending.
