The Iowa State Cyclones prepare for Saturday’s showdown with Iowa after a 48-20 win over Ohio. The Cyclones rolled up more than 500-yards of offense to improve to 2-0. I-S-U coach Dan McCarney says a few breakdowns on defense were the only concern. He says they struggled in pass coverage and gave up over 300 yards in three plays, which he says is “ridiculous.” Freshman quarterback Austin Flynn had more than 300 yards of total offense and felt much more relaxed in his second start. He says he has a lot more confidence, and knew he had to step up and improve from the first game. With a 59-yard touchdown reception in the first half Lane Danielsen became Iowa State’s all-time leader in receiving yards. He says he didn’t know until halftime when the team chaplain came up and told him he had the record. Danielsen says he never imagined breaking records when his college career began. He says it’s very rewarding and fun to come out every Saturday to play football. The native of Dike began his Cyclone career as a walk-on. McCarney says it’s sometimes hard to evaluate the tape from different levels of schools and competition.
