Rotary offers exchange program to Mexico

September 9, 2003 By admin

Iowans who’re interested in being part of an international exchange have a chance to do so free-of-charge courtesy of Iowa Rotarians. Ed McEleney is the spokesman for the District 6000 Rotarians, which includes most of southern Iowa. McEleney says they’re seeking four Iowans in the 25 to 40 age range to participate in the exchange with Mexico. He says you need to be a professional who’s interested in your counterparts in Mexico. As an example, he says a teacher would study how teachers work in Mexico, and four teachers from Mexico will come to Iowa to study how teachers work here. McEleney says it’s more than a professional trip. He says the Mexican visitors will be taken to historical and cultural sites and various dinners. The Iowans will live with host families. McEleney says anyone who’s interested needs to be able to take the month off from work to participate. He says all the expenses, including air fare and food, are paid by the Rotarians. McEleney says this program has been going on for several years. He says the program is designed to promote goodwill and understanding with other nations. For an application, you can contact one of the local Rotary Club Presidents; or contact Ed McEleney at 800-399-8485. Completed applications must be processed through the local clubs by November 1, 2003.
