Northern Iowa is idle this week after opening the home season with a 62-0 win over Northern Michigan. The Panthers are 1-1 and coach Mark Farley is happy with the progress of his quarterback Tom Petrie. Farley says the U-N-I defense has been strong, especially in the fourth quarter. He says they held Northern to 3 for 15 in third down conversions and the previous week held them to 4 for 14. The Panthers return to action a week from Thursday night at Stephen F. Austin. Farley says they feel good about where they’re at, but says they still have some things to shore up.
