The Cy-Hawk trophy has been in Ames the last five years and the Cyclones want to keep it. Cyclone coach Dan McCarney says it means a lot to him and his players, especially since they hadn’t seen or touched it during the 15 year streak when Iowa won the game. McCarney says the result of any one game in this series may not have a big impact on recruiting but snapping Iowa’s 15-game winning streak back in 1998 made a big difference. He says the Iowa kid son the roster have made a big difference, but he doesn’t think winning or losing the game makes an immediate impact on the decision of a recruit. Iowa has had solid recruiting classes in recent years despite dropping the last five games in the series but Hawkeye coach Kirk Ferentz says bragging rights are always good to have. Ferentz says it’s extremely meaningful, as he says going to the I-club functions he’s had more than one person suggest they should win the game. He says that’s the second most popular topic after fans say the seats are too small. Both teams enter Saturday’s game with identical 2-0 marks.
