With its strongest field in years the John Deere Classic begins Thursday morning near the Quad Cities. With the move to September from the tournament’s traditional spot the week before the British Open several of the P-G-A Tour’s top competitors will take part. Among those teeing off tomorrow are Davis Love III. With four wins this season and five and a half million dollars in earnings Davis is in the running for player of the year honors as well as the money title. He says he’s going to play hard the rest of the year, participating in several tournaments. Vijay Singh is also part of the field and will provide plenty of competition for Love and the other contenders during the stretch run. Davis has no major victories this year but feels he has been pretty consistent. He says he’s stayed focused on what he’s been doing. The tournament runs through Sunday.
