Man charged with another C-F robbery

A suspect arrested just minutes after a bank-robbery attempt one week ago has now been charged with another holdup. Philip James Toth was charged with second-degree robbery after police say he went to Village Bank and Trust on Cedar Falls on September 4 and gave the teller a note.Cedar Falls police Sergeant Cristy Hamblin says he walked up to a drive-up teller window and gave a note demanding money — but the teller said “no” and the bank president followed the suspect as he walked away. The bank manager used his cellphone to call police, who arrested the man. Sergeant Hamblin says Toth didn’t get any money in last week’s attempt, but authorities think he’s the suspect who entered a U.S. Bank in Cedar Falls on August 15 and gave a note to the teller there.In this case, he gave them a written note demanding 100s, fifties and twenties, and the teller game him “an undisclosed amount of money” that the man took. Among factors that helped police identify their suspect and charge Toth…he left both holdup notes behind, and they compared samples of his handwriting.
