MSU coach says they’re ready for real season

The Iowa Hawkeyes open the Big Ten race at Michigan State. After a successful stint at Louisville John L. Smith has directed the Spartans to a 3-1 start in his first season as coach. Smith says their goal is always to play for the conference championship, so all the other games are preseason to this point.The Spartans are coming off a win at Notre Dame and Smith says the defense is playing well. He says he’s not pleased with the running game yet.
