Top Iowa Democrat in Washington for meeting with cohorts

October 2, 2003 By admin

The Iowa Democratic Party’s chairman is in Washington, D.C. today, for the Democratic National Committee meeting where the party’s 10 presidential candidates will appear. Gordon Fischer of Des Moines says it’s an important moment for the candidates because they’ll be speaking to the “upper echelon” of the party — the leaders of each state party. Fischer has seen and heard the candidates in person often because Iowa is the first state to hold Caucuses, and the candidates have been here repeatedly, but the others in the room today haven’t.Fischer says he’ll try to keep a little bit of a low profile so as not to make other states jealous of Iowa’s first-in-the-nation status.
