Cattle thieves caught in Northeastern Iowa

The Clayton and Delaware County Sheriff’s Departments have capture some alleged cattle rustlers. Both departments had recently received reports of calves in the Edgewood and Colesburg area, and were following up on a report of a suspicious vehicle in the area. Following the investigation, 26-year-old Chad Hansel and his 21-year-old wife Chrystal, of rural Strawberry Point; 26-year-old Melvin Fry of Edgewood and 19-year-old Douglas Bailey junior of rural Colesburg were arrested. They were charged with third-degree theft in both Clayton and Delaware Counties. The Hansels are also charged with possession of stolen property in Delaware County. A 17-year-old boy was referred to juvenile authorities on theft charges. Five stolen calves were recovered.
