Iowa comes off bye week, ISU looks to end losing skid

October 15, 2003 By admin

Iowa will visit Ohio State Saturday in a clash of the teams that tied for the Big Ten title last season. The Hawkeyes are 5-1 while the Buckeyes had their 19-game winning streak snapped last weekend at Wisconsin. Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz says anytime you go to Ohio State, it’s a difficult place to play. Wide receiver Mo Brown will still be out of action with an injured ankle but some other Hawkeyes could return. Ohio State’s offense has been criticized for its lack of production. Ferentz says the Buckeyes have a certain style of play that was good enough to win a national championship. There is no relief in the schedule for Iowa State. The Cyclones will be looking to snap a four-game losing streak but face another rated foe this weekend when 20th-ranked Texas tries to spoil I-S-U’s homecoming. Iowa State coach Dan McCarney says it’s not an excuse, but he says he keeps it in mind when he evaluates the team.Austin Flynn was lifted for Chris Love in Saturday’s loss at Texas Tech. Despite the starting job being up for grabs, McCarney does not sense a loss of confidence in Flynn. The Cyclones have played some close games against Texas the past few years but they will face a fired-up Longhorn team this week that will be looking to erase the memory of a 65-13 loss to Oklahoma.
