What the Iowa basketball team lacked in numbers last year it made up for it in effort. With a complete squad full of experienced players Steve Alford is hoping for a trip to the N-C-A-A Tournament, something they accomplished only once in his first four years as coach. He says that’s their experience is the one thing they’ll depend on.Iowa was 17-14 a year ago and won two games in the N-I-T and Alford likes the chemistry that has developed. He says the tour of Australia and the fall practices make it look like this is going to be a fun year.Lack of depth a year ago meant tired legs and it hurt the perimeter shooting. Alford hopes added depth means more points. He says the team that usually wins gets easier baskets and makes fewer mistakes. He says eliminating the mistakes and getting the easy baskets is a point of emphasis this year. Iowa opens at home November 23rd against North Carolina-Asheville.
