G-O-P Senator Charles Grassley brought in the U.S. Senate’s Republican Leader last night for a campaign fundraiser in West Des Moines. Grassley is seeking reelection next year, already has raised about five million dollars, but has no announced Democratic opponent as yet. Grassley suspects Democrats have a candidate waiting in the wings. Grassley says he believes there’s a “stealth” campaign out there to take attention away from his race, but Grassley says he won’t be caught off guard. Tennessee Senator Bill Frist, the Republican who’s the Senate’s Majority Leader, calls Grassley an “icon” who now heads the Senate’s most powerful committee — the Senate Finance Committee. Frist says it’s important for a candidate to have sufficient campaign funds to get their message out.
