Several law enforcement agencies will spend the day searching a northeast Iowa field looking for clues in a 25-year-old missing persons case. Authorities plan to check an abandoned farm house and field in Bremer County, hoping to uncover evidence in the disappearance of Steven Kirchhoff of Waterloo. Kirchhoff was 22-years-old when he was reported missing on February 4th, 1978. Since his disappearance, officials have checked several leads in the case but haven’t been able to determine his whereabouts. Now, 25 years later, investigators say a recent tip gives them reason to search the property, located near Oran. Investigators aren’t saying what they are looking for. Federal and state authorities, police from Waterloo and Oelwein, and sheriff’s officials from Benton, Black Hawk, Bremer and Buchanan counties are all involved in the search.
