Routine call turns into dead body in Des Moines

October 24, 2003 By admin

A morning commuter in Des Moines this morning phoned police to say something didn’t look right at an eastside neighborhood. Sergeant Tony Steverson says officers went to check it out and found an apparent murder. About seven this morning (Friday) a passerby saw a man lying on the driveway of a house next to a running vehicle. Police arrived to find the man was dead at the scene, from a gunshot wound. They’ve identified the man as 30-year-old Robert Poffenberger and confirmed he lives at that house. Steverson says it appears Poffenberger lived alone. As of right now they think he was the only one who lived at that house. Police say nobody was around at the time the man’s body was found.
