Train derailment cleanup continues near Spencer

October 28, 2003 By admin

A train that derailed east of Spencer will keep a local county road closed for one more day. Officials from the Iowa Chicago & Eastern Railroad remain on the scene of Monday’s derailment, where 7 cars went off the tracks along County Road B-24 and two cars tipped on their sides, spilling soybean meal. Clay County Sheriff Randy Krucow says traffic’s being re-routed to the east and west of the derailment, and barricades will remain up till noon Wednesday. The train was headed from Mason City to Spencer. They still don’t know what caused the derailment, but nobody was hurt.
