Senator Tom Harkin says it makes no sense for the Treasury Department to spend millions on an ad campaign touting the new-fangled 20 dollar bill. Harkin says that’s “the wackiest thing” he’s ever heard. Harkin says you either get the new twenties when you go to the A-T-M or make a purchase and get change — or you don’t. The federal government is spending 32 million dollars on a TV ad campaign introducing the new twenties to the public. Harkin says it’s “bizarre” and “excessive,” and shows a lack of common sense in the Treasury Department. The new twenties have already been counterfeited, and many machines fail to recognize the bills as legal tender.
