Nearly two years after fire heavily damaged its campus centerpiece, the University of Iowa is filing suit. Just two months after the nine-eleven attacks, Old Capitol was decapitated by the flash fire the morning of November 20th, 2001. Besides the water damage inside, the blaze demolished the gold dome, cupola and belltower, which have been replaced to the tune of five-million dollars. The U-of-I is now suing Enviro Safe Air of South Sioux City, South Dakota. The company’s workers were doing remodeling work on Old Capitol when the blaze broke out. The suit alleges Enviro Safe is to blame for the fire, claiming employees were using heat guns and propane torches, disobeying specific warnings.
