Fort Madison man wins jackpot

A 40-year-old Fort Madison man has claimed the latest one-point-three million “Hot Lotto” jackpot. Todd Brobston discovered he won on Monday as he walk to work. He stopped off at a local convenience store for a couple of donuts, and handed his Hot Lotto ticket to the clerk to check to see if he’d won. Brobston says the clerk told him he was “the one,” but Brobston didn’t believe him. The clerk read off the winning numbers, and told Brobston he’d just won one-point-three million dollars. Brobston says as it started to sink in, his knees got a little weak, and then he recovered, walked to work and called his wife. She didn’t believe him at first. Neither did his mother when Brobston called her. Brobston decided to claim the money in annual installments of 36-thousand dollars. He’ll get the annual lottery check each year ’til he’s 65. He plans to continue to work for the Fort Madison street department and keep his part-time job as a bartender at the local bowling alley. Brobston says he was already rich before he won the jackpot because he’s got great relatives and great work colleagues. Brobston doesn’t consider himself a lucky person. Brobston says he’s had a lot of bad luck, but has always pulled through. He believes his deceased grandmothers are like “little angels” on his shoulders and helped change his luck because the jackpot is “a godsend.” He plans to invest most of his winnings and pay for college for his three kids.Brobston’s 1988 Chevy Cavalier conked out on Saturday and he plans to buy a new vehicle. Brobston says he’s always wanted a truck, and he’s looking at a Toyota Tundra.
