Iowa Congressman Jim Leach says he fully supports the prescription drug plan proposed by Congress. Iowa Senator Tom Harkin, a democrat, says it’s a deal that would send billions to H-M-O’s and drug companies. Leach, a republican, says it provides an important benefit for low-income Americans who’re having to chose between drugs and food. He says the combination of the low-income benefit and couple with the righting of the Medicare reimbursement formula for Iowa, makes it difficult for an Iowa representative not to support it. Leach says the bill is certainly not perfect. He says he has a hard time in his own judgment coming to the conclusion that this is a so-called “mischievous bill.” Leach says there are arguments that the bill doesn’t go far enough and that it could be extremely expensive over time, and he says both have some validity.
