The president of the Iowa Farm Bureau says it’s time to close the divide between rural and urban Iowans and unite behind a single vision for Iowa. Farm Bureau president Craig Lang, a farmer from Brooklyn, Iowa, says it’s time for urban and rural residents to come to together and offer “an obvious solution to our problems.”Lang says there’s slow economic growth in many rural counties and population trends are going backwards. Lang is urging Farm Bureau members to think big. Lang says it’s time to do things to ensure Iowa is a “destination” for new residents and vacationers, not just an “alternative. Lang says it’s important for farmers to “take a stand” and “correct” any false or misleading accusations about farming operations. Lang says groups outside Iowa are trying to give farmers a bad name, and it’s time for Iowa farmers to respond. The Iowa Farm Bureau’s annual convention started this morning in Des Moines.
