Iowa football coach Kirk Ferentz says the coaching staff has been working in hopes of avoiding problems they faced in preparations for last year’s Orange Bowl. The Capitol One and Outback bowls on January first are the most likely destinations for the Hawkeyes and Ferentz hopes they handle the layoff better than in last year’s loss to U-S-C. He says they’ve laid out a schedule for every possible bowl game. He says they weren’t as sharp as the needed to be last year in preparation on the field and mental attitude. He says it was his fault they didn’t have the right focus going into the bowl game. Ferentz says they will alter the schedule in getting ready for a bowl game. He says last year they finished up and let the players go home a few days before Christmas. He says they just need to get in some quality work in the two weeks before the bowl game. Iowa finished the regular season 9-3.
