ISU wins in double overtime over Iowa

December 4, 2003 By admin

The Iowa State women scored the last six points of the first overtime and the first four of the second overtime as the Cyclones downed Iowa 101-94 in Hilton Colesium. ISU coach Bill Fennelly says it was just one of those games with a million plays and his team was fortunate to make enough of ’em to win the game. Fennelly says it was one of the best games he has ever been involved in. Fennelly says the home crowd “willed” his team to do things and find a way to win the game. Lindsey Medders led the Cyclones with 21-points. She says Iowa State “has the best fans in the country who were behind us the whole game so we didn’t doubt ourselves at all.” A crowd of over 10,000 was reported. Iowa trailed by 12 in the first half and as many as ten in the second half. The Hawkeyes roared back to force overtime and led 85-79 with a 1:15 in overtime before the Cyclones scored six straight points. Iowa coach Lisa Bluder says there were some mental errors, including on her part, in the overtimes. She says it was a closely-matched game in every category except for free-throws. Iowa State scored 14 more points than Iowa in that category alone. Bluder who says the Hawks let it slip away in overtime. “We kinda hit a little bit of a panic mode there, and it’s unfortunate somebody had to lose this game,” she said.
