There are more comings and goings for members of the Iowa National Guard. Yet another Iowa National Guard unit is being called to federal active duty. The 194th Infantry Detachment, based at Camp Dodge, has about 60 members. The unit’s expertise is in long-range surveillance and it is equipped to observe and report on enemy positions and battlefield conditions. They’re being mobilized January 3rd. Meanwhile, some Guard members are returning to Iowa. The 3657th Maintenance Company is due to return to its base at Camp Dodge on Friday, with a welcome home ceremony planned for 6:30 PM. Eleven members of that unit are returning though another 54 are remain on active duty. Some 27-hundred Iowa Guard members are on active duty — about half of them in Iraq.
