Knoxville based Iowa Guard members come home

December 18, 2003 By admin

As more Iowa National Guard troops are called for active duty, some have made it home in time for the holidays. Patriotic pride filled the Knoxville Armory as 40 soldiers from the Iowa National Guard’s 3654th Maintenance Company in Knoxville, Oskaloosa and Chariton returned from active duty. The unit, deployed last March, had been serving in Afghanistan during “Operation Enduring Freedom.” Staff Sergeant Michael Still, who’s been serving in the Guard more than twenty years, was among those welcomed home. About 150 soldiers from 3654th remain at Camp Roberts, California; Fort Rose, Washinton and in Afghanistan.
