Independence man killed by train

An Independence man has died after being struck by a train. It happened around two p.m. Monday at a crossing in Independence. Railroad officials say the man, who has not been identified, was lying on the tracks as the train approach. The engineer sounded the horn and tried to stop the train, but the man did not move and was hit by the train.
